The institution began
its health care activities in the year
1977. The Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Medical
Trust was formed to formalize this community
movement into a public charitable organization
with the following objectives :
To make readily available cost-effective,
quality eye care to all.
Provide the latest in diagnostic
and surgical care for eye diseases.
To always have quality as the
sole criterion for all activities.
To establish eye banks and peripheral
eye donor forums for different regions
of our country.
The hospital Identified eye care
as the area of core focus and on 5.26 acres of
gifted land the Sankara Eye Centre, Coimbatore
was established.
This over the years through unstinted community
participation and with support from other service
agencies has blossomed into a 400 bed specialty
ophthalmic world class hospital.
Sankara Eye
Centre, Coimbatore has been recognized
as
a post graduate training institute by the Diplomat
of the National board, as well as by the, National
Association for Prevention of Blindness, Government
of India.
The institute aims to achieve the 20/20 perfect
vision for all by the year 2020 by establishing
similar institutions in all parts of our country
and other developing nations.
Sankara Eye Instutions have been also established
at Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, Krishnaarpanam in Sourthern
Tamilnadu & Silvassa
